Testimonials

Your organization will benefit from the MentorConnect program because it provides valuable contacts within the industry… you will also be connected to companies through networking events that IEC-BC organizes.

Raj Sharma, BC Hydro

I always leave with some fresh ideas on how to improve my business and I am able to feed that back into the discussions. This becomes a part of the learning and discovery for the IEC-BC team, which they are then able to craft into a program which directly benefits me as an employer along with thousands of newcomers as they enter the Canadian workforce.

EAG Member, from the tech industry

When you’re new to Canada, you bring the skills, the experience, the education — but sometimes you just don’t know where to start. Mentor Connect bridges that gap. By pairing newcomers with established professionals, the program opens doors, builds networks, and helps unlock real career opportunities.

Anshul Modi, IEC-BC

Hiring new Canadians has changed how we design our business. We now have specific sections for Brazilian, German, and Jamaican food [in our store], all because we hire people that came from around the world, and when you create this connection, it’s a real win-win for the business itself.

Pete Boyd, Your Independent Grocer, Kelowna

Volunteering as a mentor with IEC-BC has been incredibly rewarding, giving me the opportunity to give back to my community in a meaningful way and helping newcomers navigate their career journeys. Beyond making a difference in someone’s life, it has also helped me grow as a leader in Human Resources.

Kayla Ngo, Fairmont Pacific Rim

We have held two Connections Events with IEC-BC, helping us develop our pipeline for hard to find technical talent. We have successfully hired two candidates from this program and look forward to continuing our partnership with IEC-BC.

Frequently Asked Questions

IEC-BC is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to making BC’s employers leaders in fully embracing the skills and experience newcomers bring to our communities. Our programs are funded by contributions from diverse sources, including government bodies.

There are many BC community-based immigrant service agencies doing outstanding work to provide educational, settlement, and social services to new Canadians.

IEC-BC, in contrast, works with employers and the business community to help companies attract, hire, and retain skilled immigrants to meet the province’s workforce needs. We also help connect companies with immigrant service organizations and other partners to expand their talent pools.

All of our initiatives are designed to address BC’s labour market needs and make the province more competitive.

Our value proposition lies in helping employers effectively compete in local and global markets. We ensure you have the tools and resources needed to tap into skilled immigrant talent, helping you grow your business and our economy.

BC cannot demographically sustain its economic prosperity without the unique talents that new Canadians provide.

Businesses, particularly small and medium-sized ones, often don’t have the resources or expertise to recruit, hire, and retain the skilled immigrant workers needed to fill job openings and remain competitive.

Many companies also find it difficult to navigate the programs and procedures required to hire qualified immigrants. IEC-BC works with governments to promote policies and programs to make the immigration system more responsive to employer needs.

We also provide the practical tools and resources employers need to attract, hire, and retain skilled immigrant talent.
